Volunteer on an Animal Care project in Mexicoこのプロジェクト参加にあたって、支障のない英語でのコミュニケーション能力が求められるため、本ページは英語のみの案内となりますので、あらかじめご了承ください。

As a qualified veterinarian or veterinary nurse, you will be working at a small clinic run by the University of Guadalajara where you will help the existing staff and volunteers.

How can volunteer veterinarians or veterinary nurses help in Mexico?

With your experience and skills, your daily tasks will range from animal care to assisting in or performing surgeries. You will deal with clients and help manage the everyday running of the clinic, as well as administrate general vaccines and medication.

You also have the choice to help the education officer with research and raising awareness of diseases and animal welfare.

As a trained veterinarian or veterinary nurse, you will be able to work unsupervised on certain cases, allowing local staff time to carry out other pressing tasks.

You will work between 25 and 35 hours per week – and sometimes out of hours – depending on the individual project and how you develop your role with your project supervisor.

Please note that this project is closed for two weeks over the Easter and Christmas holidays and is also closed for the first two weeks of August. During these times you may be interested in spending some time at our Conservation programs in Mexico.

What will I gain from this project?

You will be working with a friendly and highly dedicated team who are committed to the service they provide. You will adapt and develop your existing expertise to a different working environment and you may often face challenges not experienced in your home country. Through this cultural exchange, you will learn different methodologies and techniques in veterinary treatments.

You will also have the opportunity to grow in skills and experience in a wide range of areas, which will prove to be invaluable to your career in Veterinary Medicine. These may include:

  • Collaborating with the clinic’s staff to develop more efficient and effective systems in the workplace.
  • Collaborating with the local veterinary staff to develop outreach programs in the local community and beyond.
  • Using your veterinary medicine expertise to train staff and other volunteers.
  • Using your veterinary medicine expertise to treat animals in the clinic.
  • Using your initiative to develop, set up and manage projects/programs within the clinic or in the community.
  • Developing and contributing to project evaluation reports to help with continuity between veterinary volunteers.
