Interns participating on a Journalism project in Togo can choose to work with a public radio station or with a private press association where it is possible to combine print, radio, and TV journalism or choose to focus on one area. Both placements are based in the vibrant capital city of Lomé.

Interns should speak good conversational French to take part in both of these projects, as you will be communicating in French with your Togolese colleagues. However you can choose to write in English and broadcast in English on the radio or television if your French is not fluent.

The minimum duration is 2 weeks for interns with previous experience and those studying journalism. To join the project for fewer than 4 weeks, interns must at least be in their second year of journalism studies with some internship experience. If an intern has no experience, their minimum duration is 4 weeks.

At both placements you will work alongside a small team of local journalists and will be given a range of responsibilities. At the radio station you may be broadcasting live on air and taking part in discussion shows. At the press association you can get involved in a huge variety of activities including researching stories and interviewing people or writing and translating articles. You can also write pieces before broadcasting them on the radio or at the television station.

This is a fantastic opportunity to potentially get involved with all aspects of print, radio, and television journalism and learn many useful journalism techniques.

Interns will receive guidance from their supervisor at the placement. The Projects Abroad office is also located nearby, so staff are always on hand to offer any support needed. It is important to remember that you will be working at a professional organization and as an intern you should be hard working, punctual, and take the work seriously.
